Statistics

When we look at this graph, it shows comparisons betweens Rooms 7, 8 and 10. I can see that only room 8 has students who could wall squat for over 20 minutes. I can see that all three classes have 1 student who can only wall squat for less than one minute.

This graph has comparisons between boys and girls of Nepia house. I can see that all of the girls stopped before 13 minutes. We can see that boys could wall squat for the least amount of time.

Camp Update

Room 7 and room 10 had an amazing camp experience. We all loved trying new experiences and getting to know each other. If you look at our individual student blogs you will see evidence of this!
We all enjoyed different parts of camp, but Miss Garland's favourite was definitely the waterslide....despite the uncomfortable after effects!

Position and Orientation

Today we began to explore different elevations.
We began by creating our own designs and drawing them from the different views. This was difficult and required us to move our designs around so we could check our ideas.
As an extra challenge, Miss Garland drew a plan, which we then had to create with the blocks. This required us to keep checking and testing.

Heavy Animals

Room 7 have been exploring Rich Tasks and using a range of Problem Solving Strategies. Today we had to work out which was the best way to arrange the animals in the Vet shelves, so they didn't exceed the weight limits. Have a look at our blogs to see our strategies and reflections. Some people made diagrams, lots of people used a table and I showed how I used a spreadsheet could be helpful to keep the information organised.

ASB Get Wise

This morning, we began to explore some Financial Literacy. At the end of February, we will have a visit from ASB bank. Today we did some research about salaries and the differences between average incomes. We also used a calculator from the IRD to work out what our Tax could be, if we earned that average salary. Check out the bottom Padlet to see what our dream jobs are. Some of the salaries are pretty outrageous!

Language Features

Today we continued to explore Re-Crafting our writing.
We have decided that your can re-craft your writing in three different ways.

We each re-crafted the same piece of writing, to show how this can make a simple piece of writing more interesting.
Check out our student blogs to read our writing.

We then began to creating a Language Feature Dictionary. We have put in our first examples, but this will definitely need to be re-crafted!

Fantastic Focus

This week, Room 6 have all made a great start to term 3. We have been working hard in our math and reading groups and pushing ourselves individually to improve our fitness for the cross country.

On Tuesday, we all completed personal reflections, including Miss Garland. Our reflections were based on our thoughts about our achievements so far, goals for the future and practical steps that we can work on to achieve these goals.
Through this process, Miss Garland has decided to revamp part of her teaching. We are now going to have the opportunity to direct our own learning, through Passion Projects. Stay tuned to find out more about our passions and how we are going to use these passions to develop our literacy skills.

Taking Control of OUR LEARNING!

This term, Room 6 are going to be trialing a new way of learning. We are going to be planning our day, based on a list of activities and group sessions that Miss Garland provides us.
In order for this to be successful, we need to be aware of our learning. All the time we should be asking ourselves how our learning is progressing and what our next step is.
Miss Garland has created some posters to help us be aware of our role in the Learning Process.
We started using these Save Me Starters in our math session yesterday and it worked fantastically! Now Miss Garland knows exactly how we are feeling and what she can do or where she can direct us to head to for more help.

Writing

This year, we have been working on organising our writing in paragraphs and adding supporting detail. Today we moved past this and are now specifically working on using precise vocabulary to add impact to our writing. Here is our criteria for this, followed by Miss Garland's first paragraph that we helped her to write. Poor Miss Garland!

The minute that I saw the droplets on the windows of the classroom, I knew that it was going to be a traumatizing afternoon. I crossed my fingers and hope that it would clear, maybe it was just a shower, a brief downpour, a little drizzle. When the deafening bell rang, I knew that my fate was sealed. He was coming. It was cold and he was coming. Cold meant track-pants. And track-top. Saveloy red. He would usually wear revealing rugby shorts, but the minute the cold weather began, out comes the Saveloy Suit.

This will allow you to improve your number knowledge.

Freaky Fractions!

Yesterday we began to learn about Fractions. We started our learning with a great Kahoot. The Kahoot had a range of questions that required us to use our Fraction knowledge. Today we began working in groups to fix any gaps that we had and answer any questions from yesterday. We specifically worked with equivalent fractions. Here is a You Tube video which might be helpful if you are struggling.
This image shows clearly, how the fractions remain the same.
